The University of Essex’s Black Researchers’ Hub commissioned a case study film to showcase the impact of their online platform in supporting Black students throughout their academic journey. The aim was to create a personal, authentic narrative that highlights how the Hub fosters belonging, connection, and academic success.

Aura Films developed a story-driven film following one student’s experience using the platform during her time at Essex. To ensure a genuine and accurate portrayal, we worked closely with both the Black Researchers’ Hub and the featured student in pre-production—conducting in-depth conversations to fully understand her journey and the platform’s role in it.

The resulting interview served as the backbone of the film, from which we shaped a concise and emotionally resonant story. Visually, we captured the beauty of the University campus—its open parkland, diverse learning spaces, and vibrant social areas—to ground the story in a real and aspirational setting.

The final film is an engaging, honest, and uplifting account of how the Black Researchers’ Hub can make a meaningful difference in the student experience, while also promoting the inclusive and supportive environment the University of Essex offers to prospective Black students.
